Nancy is the project of two musicians brought together by chance and sustained by a natural synchronicity that has allowed an easy flow of music to pour forth since 2018. Recalling this time, the band says: “We never intended to be a band, but the songs came so naturally and quickly. We instantly felt a special connection to the music and knew it had created a world of its own”. They first shared their raw, emotive sound in an EP, titled Three Birds, in the same year that they first began practicing together at Shabby Road Studios (the North London flat they recorded their home demos in.) Now the duo has returned with a resplendent new single ‘It’s Just You’. It’s a brooding lofi recording informed by melancholia and frustration that typifies Nancy’s style. The sparse production gives the space for those rouge vocals to fly free over a canopy of driving percussion and dramatic indie-rock guitars. Thankfully this won’t be the last we’re hearing of Nancy in 2020 with a promise of a new EP in the pipeline. - Hannah Thacker
